New York Botanical Garden bus trip
Wednesday, May 12th, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Come with us to the New York Botanical Garden on Wednesday, May 12th, for Emily Dickinson's Garden: The Poetry of Flowers. During her lifetime, Emily Dickinson was better known as a gardener than as a poet. This exhibition will illuminate the connections that exist between her life and poems, and her study and love of flowers and gardens. It will reveal a new perspective on one of the greatest Romantic poets of the Victorian era in contemporary, fresh ways.
We will begin the day with a one-hour tour in the Conservatory, accompanied by docents and actresses in period clothes. This flower show in the Conservatory will recreate Dickinson's own New England flower garden, displaying her favorite plants and flowers. We will stroll through a replica of the family property in Amherst, Massachusetts, including the Homestead, Emily's own home, as well as her brother's home, the Evergreens, and the beloved wooded pathway that joined the two.
An exhibition of 60 fascinating objects and artifacts from Emily Dickinson's life is on view in the Gallery of the Mertz Library, providing a rare glipse into Emily's world. Emily Dickinson's poetry walk, with over 40 poetry boards and audio messages featuring her poems and the plants and flowers that inspired her to write them, will take us throughout the Botanical Garden's collections at the peak of the spring flowering season.
At any time, hop on one of the many trams and explore the fabulous grounds, but be sure to hop off for the lilacs and the magnificent rock garden, or take a stroll along the azalea walk which should be at its peak.
Lunch is not included, but an inexpensive lunch can be purchased at the Garden Café (near the Conservatory) or the Visitor Center Café (near the gift shop and home gardening center).
We will leave the Clark Botanic Garden parking lot promptly at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, May 12th, and return to the Garden at approximately 5:00 PM.
Fee: $65.00 members / $80.00 non-members, includes all-garden pass, guided tour, and bus transportation. Please make your reservations early since seats will be assigned on a first-come/first-serve basis. If you cancel by May 1st, we will refund your fee less a $5.00 service charge. No refunds after May 1st.
For more information and to reserve a spot, see the New York Botanical Garden registration form.
